Letter to the Editor:
Liz Hanbidge a strong advocate for students

September 30, 2018 – I have been volunteering for Liz Hanbidge, Democrat candidate for the Pa. House of Representatives, because she was introduced to me as a strong advocate for children and schools. She is now a practicing family attorney.

She is a strong child advocate, and her education and career reflect it. I have heard Liz say, “When it comes to kids and schools, we can’t let zip codes matter.” Liz believes that all children deserve a high-quality education. She understands that the best way to support kids is to support their teachers and make sure schools have the funding they need. She believes kids are over-tested and are missing out on rich curricular experiences. She believes that students need access to college-level work and long-distance learning opportunities in high schools. Liz herself is a learner, and she knows that often the good ideas come from other places and people. She is deeply concerned about student and staff safety and watching how other states and districts across the county are responding. She also believes that teachers must be included in conversations and plans to improve schools.

Not long ago, I heard her lead off a panel by asking educators at every level, “What do I need to know and do to best support your efforts?” I watched her intensely listen and ask good questions before she spoke.

As I work for Liz, I watch her responsiveness to constituents and know that when she promises to follow up, it happens. She is a high-action, action-oriented optimistic candidate who seems fearless in getting problems solved, and she is passionate about supporting sensible reform in Harrisburg.

President Barack Obama Endorses Liz Hanbidge

August 1, 2018 – President Barack Obama endorsed Liz Hanbidge, the Democratic candidate for State Representative in the 61st Pennsylvania House District.

President Obama has formally endorsed five candidates from Pennsylvania for the 2018 midterm elections, stating: “I’m proud to endorse such a wide and impressive array of Democratic candidates – leaders as diverse, patriotic, and big-hearted as the America they’re running to represent. I’m confident that, together, they’ll strengthen this country we love by restoring opportunity, repairing our alliances and standing in the world, and upholding our fundamental commitment to justice, fairness, responsibility, and the rule of law. But first, they need our votes.”

Hanbidge commented, “I am incredibly honored and humbled to receive the endorsement of President Barack Obama. President Obama is a source of inspiration for me and a model for my own service. I am extremely grateful for his support. I will carry on his message of hope and change to Harrisburg by always putting the needs of the people in my district first.”

Hanbidge is a child advocate from Whitpain Township. She has a family law practice and devotes significant pro-bono time to the Montgomery County Child Advocacy Project, protecting Montgomery County’s children in the courtroom. Hanbidge also volunteers to work with 6th grade civics students at Gwyn-Nor Elementary and East Norton Middle School. She is an Emerge Pennsylvania and New Leaders Council alumna.

August 20, 2018 –  Today EMILY’s List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Liz Hanbidge for State Representative in Pennsylvania’s 61st House District.

"Liz Hanbidge has proven her commitment to children and families across Pennsylvania," said Geri Prado, senior director of state and local campaigns at EMILY's List. "As a lawyer and child advocate, she has worked tirelessly to protect Montgomery County's most vulnerable. EMILY's List is proud to support Liz for state House where she will fight for quality education, good-paying jobs, and a state government that works for everyone."

Hanbidge said today, “EMILY’s List propels qualified, accomplished, and inspirational women into public office and I am tremendously grateful to receive their support. EMILY’s List’s mantra is to ‘ignite change.’ Change is certainly needed in my district and in Harrisburg. It’s time we elect leaders that put people first and who champion the issues that people in my district care about, from a strong public education system, to fair wages and equal pay, to a woman’s access to healthcare.”

Hanbidge receives EMILY’s List’s endorsement just weeks after President Barack Obama endorsed her campaign for Pennsylvania’s 61st House District.
